OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2024-2025 NBA season will be etched in history with one name: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The 26-year-old Canadian player not only led the Oklahoma City Thunder to their first title since their move to Oklahoma, but also became the fourth player to achieve a feat reserved for legends.

A historic achievement

Gilgeous-Alexander joined an elite group by being recognized as the regular season MVP, Finals MVP, scoring champion, and NBA champion in the same season. His outstanding performance in the 103-91 victory over the Indiana Pacers in Game 7 of the Finals placed him alongside icons like Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Shaquille O’Neal.

This is not just a victory for me. It’s for my family, my friends, my coaches, for everyone who has been with me from the beginning. This is for the fans.

In a colossal season, Shai led the Thunder with 64 games of at least 30 points, accumulating a total of 3,172 units (including playoffs), the ninth-highest figure in NBA history. He was the offensive heart of a team that amassed 84 victories, one of the highest marks recorded. Despite not having the explosive style of other superstars, his ability to control the pace of the game, create space, and score efficiently has catapulted him to the top.

He’s an incredible scorer and has improved as a playmaker. He’s our leader, on and off the court.

Mark Daigneault, Thunder Coach
Tyrese Haliburton, Indiana’s star point guard’s injury, partially marred the anticipated on-court duel. However, Gilgeous-Alexander had already made his mark with 29 decisive points and absolute control of the game. Beyond the numbers, his impact transcends: he is the new face of basketball in Canada, the idol of an entire generation.

It’s a shining example for everyone, on and off the court.

Steve Nash, Former NBA Player
Inspired by Kobe Bryant, whom he considers his favorite player, Gilgeous-Alexander hopes to approach that level of greatness:

I never met him, but his mindset marked me. I hope to be at that same level someday.
