San Francisco Giants Reassign Héctor Borg

San Francisco – The San Francisco Giants announced this Friday the reassignment of Dominican Héctor Borg, who leaves his role as third base coach to join the organization’s player development department. The decision was communicated before the game against the Colorado Rockies and comes at a delicate moment for the Giants, marked by errors in base running. In the interim, Ron Wotus, with extensive experience, will assume the duties of third base coach while a permanent replacement is being defined. A recent episode that accelerated the change occurred during the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, when Willy Adames was out at the plate after receiving the signal to advance from third base. San Francisco lost that game 3-2. Until Wednesday’s defeat against Arizona, the Giants had accumulated 18 outs on the bases, one of the highest figures of the season. In addition, they had been retired seven times at the plate.

“I think some of those things need to be revisited more, both mentally and physically, with repetitions”

Leader Tony Vitello
Borg, who was part of the organization for more than two decades, arrived as an international free agent in 2004. After his time as a player in 2008, he began a career in development and training in the club’s minor leagues. The Dominican was integrated into the Major League coaching staff this season, with the support of general manager Zack Minasian and manager Vitello. During spring training, Borg described himself as an aggressive third-base coach, a characteristic that generated questions. Now, the Giants are looking to reorganize their technical structure to correct the flaws that have affected their performance.
