MEXICO CITY. – Mexican driver Sergio “Checo” Pérez, Formula 1 world runner-up in 2023, has expressed his confidence in Max Verstappen’s potential for the 2025 season, highlighting his consistency and talent. During the “From the Track to the Court” event, prior to the Mexican Grand Prix, Pérez commented on the possibilities of his former teammate.

Due to the consistency he has always shown, Max has a very good chance of winning the championship; he is undoubtedly the driver who deserves it the most.

The Mexican driver, considered one of the most outstanding in the history of national motorsport, was optimistic despite not participating in this year’s race, after his departure from Red Bull Racing at the end of the 2024 season. Pérez assured that his absence will be temporary and that he will return to Formula 1 in 2026 as a driver for the new Cadillac team, marking his fifteenth season in the top category.

New Stage with Cadillac

With 39 podium finishes in his career, “Checo” was motivated by his new stage with the American team and revealed details about his return.

I want to enjoy this last stage of my career; I am very excited. We have everything ready, including the color of the helmet: it will be black.

The Tapatio driver highlighted the support and trust received from his new technical structure, contrasting with his last years at Red Bull. Pérez explained that they are already working on the simulator and that in November they will conduct tests with engineers and mechanics to prepare for the start of the season in January.

Closing the Cycle with Red Bull

Pérez was part of Red Bull between 2021 and 2024, achieving notable results, including a fourth place in his first season, a third place in 2022, the runner-up in 2023 and an eighth place in 2024. Although his departure marks the end of a stage, the Mexican driver expressed his gratitude for the achievements and his enthusiasm for the new chapter that is about to begin. The 2025 Mexican Grand Prix will be held this weekend at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, where fans will pay tribute to one of the country’s most successful drivers.
