San Francisco Giants Reassign Héctor Borg
The San Francisco Giants announced this Friday the reassignment of Dominican Héctor Borg, who leaves his position as third base coach to join the organization’s player development department. The decision was communicated before the game against the Colorado Rockies, amid a complicated season start for the Giants, marked by errors in base running. In the interim, Ron Wotus will assume the duties of third base coach while the organization seeks a permanent replacement. A recent episode that accelerated this change was during the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, where Willy Adames was called out at the plate after the signal to advance from third base. Before Wednesday’s loss to Arizona, the Giants had accumulated 18 outs on the bases, one of the highest figures in the league. In addition, they had been retired seven times at the plate.Borg, who was part of the organization for more than two decades, signed as an international free agent in 2004 and, after his time as a player in 2008, began a career in development and training within the club’s minor league system. The Dominican was integrated into the Major League coaching staff this season, with the support of general manager Zack Minasian and manager Vitello. During spring training, Borg described himself as an aggressive coach at third base, a characteristic that generated questions. Now, the Giants reorganize their technical structure to correct the flaws that have affected their performance.I think some of those things need to be gone over more, both mentally and physically, with repetitions.
