MONTREAL, Canada – George Russell, representing the United Kingdom, won the sprint race of the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix. The competition, held at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, marked a milestone as it was the first time this format was held on Canadian soil.

The Mercedes driver demonstrated absolute dominance, maintaining a consistent pace from start to finish to secure his first sprint victory of the season.

Lando Norris, also British and a McLaren driver, placed second, followed by the Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who completed the podium in third position.

This result consolidates Mercedes’ competitive growth in the championship. Russell thus adds his third sprint victory of the 2026 season, out of a total of six short races.

Antonelli, who currently leads the World Championship, added crucial points, solidifying his position in the overall standings and highlighting the performance of the German team.

The day was not favorable for the Spanish drivers. Carlos Sainz Jr. finished outside the points, in tenth position. Fernando Alonso, for his part, had to abandon the race before completing it.

The Canadian Grand Prix will continue this weekend with the qualifying session and the main race, a crucial event in the fight for the 2026 Formula 1 world championship.
