Dominican Republic Shone with Medals at the Bolivarian Games

The Dominican Republic delegation continues to reap successes in the XX Bolivarian Games, adding six new medals during Wednesday’s day. These achievements in disciplines such as rowing, athletics, judo and boxing strengthen their position in the general medal table. With a total of 43 medals (8 gold, 11 silver and 24 bronze), the country is consolidated in seventh position, demonstrating the talent and dedication of its athletes.

Rowing: Gold and Silver for the Dominican Republic

Rower Ignacio Vásquez stood out by obtaining the gold medal in the men’s single sculls (LM1x) in the competitions held at Cantolao beach, La Punta. Vásquez dominated the 200 meters with a time of 1:31.96, adding his second medal in the event, after the silver obtained in the lightweight double sculls. The Venezuelan Andre Ricardo Mora Sosa took the silver (1:35.30), while the Peruvian César Cipriani Robles obtained the bronze (1:36.90).
  • Vásquez and Jancarlos Tineo finished in fifth place in the men’s double sculls (M2X) with a time of 1:30.97.
  • The women’s duet Wendy Simó Peña and Alisson Galay Morales did not complete their race in W2X.
For this Thursday, Vásquez, Tineo, Simó and Galay will compete in the mixed quadruple (4Mx+).

Athletics: Silver in 4×100 Relay

The Dominican Republic athletics team won two silver medals in the relay races held at the Videna Athletic Stadium. The men’s team, composed of Christopher Reyes, Melbin José Marcelino Olivo, Lidio Andrés Feliz and Yancarlos Martínez, recorded a time of 39.20 seconds in the 4×100 relay race, finishing behind Colombia, which set a Bolivarian record with 38.73 seconds. Venezuela took the bronze with 39.31 seconds. In the women’s 4×100 relay competition, Fiordaliza Cofil, Liranyi Alonso, Patricia Siné, and Milagros Durán clocked 44.23 seconds, surpassed by Colombia (44.00). Chile completed the podium with 45.08 seconds.
  • Lidio Andrés Feliz finished fourth in the men’s 200 meters with a time of 20.73 seconds, while Christopher Reyes came seventh with 21.01 seconds.
  • In the women’s 200 meters, Milagros Durán placed seventh overall with 24.38 seconds.
  • Estrella De Aza and Bianka Acosta achieved fourth and sixth place in the women’s 400 meters, with times of 54.10 and 54.65 seconds, respectively.
  • Wilbert Encarnación finished fourth in the men’s 400 meters with a time of 47.36 seconds.

Judo: Bronze in Mixed Team

The Dominican judo team won the bronze medal after defeating Peru 4-1 in the mixed team event, played under the “round robin” format. The Dominican judokas fell to Colombia (2-3) and Venezuela (1-4), finishing third in the overall standings with nine medals (3 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze).

In the Bolivarian Games of Valledupar 2022, the Dominican Republic won two golds (Moira Morillo and José Nova), one silver and one bronze.

Boxing: Bronzes Secured and a Final

Boxing added two bronze medals thanks to the participation of Elen Roble (51 kg) and Johan Agüero Montaño (60 kg). In addition, José Agustín advanced to the final and secured at least silver after defeating the Bolivian Jimmy Quiroz (+90 kg) by RSC. Agustín will compete for the gold this Thursday against Gerlon Congo, from Ecuador. Oak was defeated 0-5 by Peruvian Ana Baylon, while Agüero was surpassed by RSC in the second round by Colombian Yilmar González.

Bowling: Results in the Women’s Individual Final

In the women’s singles bowling final, the Dominican representatives obtained the following results:
  • Shantalle Hungría, position 16 (1054 pins)
  • Letizia Santos, position 20 (987 pins)
  • Paula Díaz, position 23 (935 pins)
  • Carmina Vásquez, position 24 (905 pins)

Equestrian: Fourth Position in Mixed Team Jumping

The Dominican Republic is in fourth position in the Mixed Team Jumping competition, with a total of 26.82 points. In the mixed individual competition, the results were:
  • Juan José Bancalari Elmúdesi: position 7 (5.24)
  • Aida Sánchez Ravelo: position 8 (5.97)
  • Manuel Fernández Haché: position 20 (20.32)
  • Manuel Bancalari Elmúdesi: position 28 (56.61)

Golf: Willy Pumarol Rises to Second Place

Willy Pumarol had an outstanding second round with 67 strokes, four under par, and placed second in the overall standings with a total of 137, tied with Chilean Gabriel Francisco and Venezuelan Juan Miguel Ramírez. Colombian Manuel Torres leads with 132 strokes after a round of 64. Juan José Guerra, from the Dominican Republic, is in seventh place with 140 strokes after a second round of 68. The golf tournament is played over four rounds.

Skateboarding: Qualification to the Final

Juan Fabián Ruiz advanced to the men’s park final with a score of 8.63. Ámbar Silverio qualified for the women’s street final by reaching 6.00 points.

Triathlon: Dominican Results

Results of Dominican athletes in triathlon:

In the women’s competition:

Beach Volleyball: Partial Results

In the men’s competition, Goris/Albino lost 0-2 to Chile, but achieved a 2-0 victory against Ecuador in their second match. In the women’s category, Payano/Cleto were defeated 0-2 by Venezuela and will need to win their two matches on Thursday to advance.

Tennis: Peter Bertrán Advances to Semifinals

Peter Bertrán secured his spot in the men’s singles semi-finals after defeating Bolivian Santiago Lora 6-2, 6-1.
