Pujols: Dominican Republic aims for the championship in the World Baseball Classic
Albert Pujols, a key figure in Dominican baseball, has made clear the ambition of the Dominican Republic for the next World Baseball Classic: to conquer the title for the second time. The national team leader has been working closely with the general manager, Nelson Cruz, to put together a team of players that will honorably represent the country in the tournament. Pujols assured that the team is practically defined.Pujols acknowledges the importance of building a competitive team, especially after the participation in 2023, where the Dominican team failed to advance beyond the first round. The experienced player emphasized the team’s responsibility to seek the championship. He pointed out that, despite the previous results, commitment and discipline have always been present. Dominican Republic will compete in Group D of the next World Baseball Classic, along with Venezuela, Netherlands, Israel, and Nicaragua. The last time the team advanced to the second phase of the tournament was in 2017.I believe that 95 percent of the roster is already set. The other 5 percent is because we have been scouting several guys who are playing in the winter league who also have that chance to represent and I believe that our country and the fans are going to feel happy and satisfied with the roster that Nelson Cruz and I and the group are forming.
