Benjamin Pritchard Makes History at the Shanghai World Rowing Championships
British rower Benjamin Pritchard has made history at the World Rowing Championships held in Shanghai, China. This Monday, Pritchard became the first athlete to set a new record in the competition.
Pritchard managed to surpass the existing Paralympic best mark in the men’s single sculls PR1 category.
During the second day of the championship, Pritchard recorded a time of 8:59.60, surpassing the previous mark from 2023, set by the Ukrainian Roman Polianskyi at a World Championship.
The competition for the world title will intensify this Friday, with Pritchard and Polianskyi competing alongside Australia’s Erik Horrie, a Paralympic bronze medalist, and Italy’s Giacomo Perini, who won silver at the 2023 World Championships.
