The Detroit Pistons staged an epic comeback against the Orlando Magic, securing their spot in the Eastern Conference semifinals with a resounding 116-94 victory in the seventh game.
After being down 1-3 in the series, Detroit showed resilience and sealed their qualification with a dominant performance at home. Cade Cunningham, the team’s star, led the offense with 32 points and 12 assists, being fundamental to the victory.
The home team displayed great effectiveness, with 51.2% in field goals and 16 three-pointers converted out of 33 attempts. Tobias Harris contributed 30 points and nine rebounds, including five three-pointers, while Jalen Duren achieved a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
With this victory, the Pistons achieve their first playoff series win in 18 years, solidifying their position as one of the strongest teams in the East in the regular season.
From Orlando’s side, Paolo Banchero stood out with 38 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, although he lacked offensive support. Franz Wagner’s absence was again a factor, and Desmond Bane contributed 16 points as the team’s second-highest scorer.
Detroit took control of the game in the second quarter with a 40-27 run, extending their lead to 25 points in the third period, leaving the Magic with no options as they couldn’t keep up the pace.
The Pistons will wait for the winner of the seventh game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors to know their next opponent.
In the other Eastern Conference semi-final, the Philadelphia 76ers will face the New York Knicks, after their victory over Boston at the TD Garden.
