Pedro Martínez and Carolina Cruz Receive Honorary Doctorates
Boston, Massachusetts – Former Dominican pitcher Pedro Martínez and his wife, Carolina Cruz, were honored with honorary Doctorates of Humane Letters during the Fisher College Class of 2025 graduation ceremony.
The recognition was granted in recognition of his outstanding social and community work through the Pedro Martínez Foundation, a non-profit organization that has positively impacted thousands of children and young people in the Dominican Republic and the United States.

Pedro Martínez, a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame and World Series champion with the Boston Red Sox in 2004, adds this achievement to his illustrious career, now in the humanitarian field.
Carolina Cruz, president of the foundation and also a recipient of the honorary doctorate, was recognized for her commitment and leadership in the educational, health, and community development projects promoted by the organization.
Fisher College’s graduation ceremony, in its 121st edition, not only celebrated the new graduates but also exemplary figures for their impact on society. In addition, the university announced the creation of a $5,000 scholarship to support the work of the Pedro Martínez Foundation.
The recognition was celebrated by sports figures.
With this honor, Pedro Martínez and Carolina Cruz reaffirm their commitment to the integral development of the most needy communities, extending their legacy beyond the playing field.
