New economic proposals have been presented by Major League Baseball (MLB) to the Players Association (MLBPA) for a new collective bargaining agreement. The main objective is to promote greater competitiveness among the teams. The proposal, which covers a period of seven years, from 2027 to 2033, includes crucial aspects for the financial restructuring of the sport. Implementation of a salary cap and floor.

Baseball is about hope and competition, and many fans feel their teams don’t have a fair chance to win.

The proposed salary floor for 2027 is $171.2 million, which would force several teams to increase their payrolls. On the other hand, the salary cap is set at $245.3 million, affecting organizations with large investments. The league seeks to balance competition, allowing more clubs to compete in free agency and retain their key players. MLB also proposes to distribute 50% of total revenue between players and owners, following models of the NBA and NHL. The centralization of local television rights is another notable measure, with the aim of eliminating regional blockades and distributing revenue more evenly. The initiative ensures the validity of current and future player contracts. The Players Association will evaluate the proposal, whose negotiations could define the economic and competitive future of Major League Baseball in the next decade.
