MLB defines requirements for new baseball stadium in DR: Commission advances

Santo Domingo – The Consultative Commission, appointed by President Luis Abinader to evaluate the construction of a new baseball stadium, held a crucial meeting this Thursday. At the meeting, the official requirements of Major League Baseball (MLB) related to the necessary conditions to host regular season games and international events were presented. The meeting took place at the offices of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). One of the key agreements was the hiring of a court interpreter. This professional will translate into Spanish the document sent by MLB, which is originally in English. The objective is to carry out a detailed evaluation before making a final decision on the project. In addition, a progress report from the legal subcommittee was presented. This subcommittee is composed of the jurists Angélica Noboa Pagán, Elka Scheker Mendoza, Edgar Torres Reynoso, and Julissa Vásquez. They are in charge of analyzing all legal and contractual aspects of the project, with the advice of lawyer Olivo Rodríguez Huertas.

Communications and Next Steps

The commission also received interview requests from Alejandro Marranzini Capano, legal representative of Championship Venture, Ltd., and Eduardo Najri, president of the Escogido Baseball Club. Both expressed their interest in presenting their views on the work. It was reported that both parties will be heard in due course, as will other people and entities that have requested to participate in the consultation process.

Meeting Participants

In addition to the members of the legal commission, the meeting was attended by the Minister of Sports Kelvin Cruz, the general director of Bandex, Catalino Correa Hiciano, the president of LIDOM, Vitelio Mejía Ortiz, and the national baseball commissioner, Junior Noboa. The president of the Advisory Commission, Dr. Jorge Subero Isa, highlighted that the works are progressing as established by the presidential mandate. He assured that the project is being developed with transparency, technical rigor, and with the participation of all those involved in baseball and the urban development of the area where the new stadium will be built.

“We are in a stage of analysis and reception of information. The goal is to ensure that the new stadium meets the highest international standards and serves as a national pride,” said Subero Isa.
