Boston, United States – The atmosphere at Fenway Park ignited this Saturday during the matchup between the Red Sox and the Twins, when a collision at home plate between Willson Contreras and Victor Caratini unleashed tension on the field.

Collision at Home Plate

The situation occurred in the fourth inning, with Contreras trying to score after a double connected by Ceddanne Rafaela. Despite the stop sign from third base coach Chad Epperson, the Venezuelan player chose to continue towards home plate. With little room to maneuver, Contreras collided with Caratini, who was guarding home. The Twins catcher’s reaction was immediate, and both players exchanged words, raising the tension on the field.
Although the situation caused the benches and bullpens to empty, the incident was quickly controlled, without escalating further. According to the initial assessment, the play seemed legal, both due to Caratini’s defensive position and the way Contreras tried to reach safety.

Following the altercation, the head of the umpiring crew, Will Little, issued warnings to both teams before resuming the match.

Minutes before this incident, Contreras had hit a single and, upon reaching first base, accidentally knocked down Kody Clemens, the Twins’ first baseman, which had already increased the intensity of the game.
