Mets Ratify Carlos Mendoza Amidst a Difficult Start
ANAHEIM – The New York Mets have publicly expressed their support for manager Carlos Mendoza, despite the challenging start to the season the team is experiencing. David Stearns, president of baseball operations, confirmed that there are no planned changes in the coaching staff, despite the team’s record of 10-21, one of the worst starts in franchise history after 31 games.Management, including owner Steve Cohen, has not formally discussed the possibility of a dismissal, even though other renowned managers have recently been relieved in the Major Leagues. From the team’s perspective, the problems are not solely attributed to the coaching staff. Injuries to important players like Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, and Jorge Polanco have significantly impacted offensive performance, placing the Mets in the bottom ranks in several categories, including runs scored. Despite the complicated situation, the management believes there is still time to improve, with 131 games left to play in the Major League Baseball season. They are confident that the team can recover, similar to what happened in 2024, when under Mendoza’s leadership, the team improved after a shaky start. The 46-year-old Venezuelan manager is in the final guaranteed year of his contract, with a club option for 2027, and has a record of 182-173 at the helm of the team.“We know we are not where we want to be, but we don’t see this as a problem of the leader,” Stearns affirmed.
