Mariners Sour the Debut of the Heroes of Moca with an Epic Finish
MOCA – In a meeting full of emotions and drama, the Marineros de Puerto Plata defeated the Héroes de Moca with a final score of 89-86, in the opening game of the Super Liga LNB 2026. The match took place at the Polideportivo Moca 85, where the home team experienced a bittersweet debut.
The game, which remained close throughout regulation time, was decided in the final seconds with a spectacular three-pointer by Emmanuel Omogbo.
John Clark Jr. had tied the score at 86 points apiece, thanks to two free throws made with 21 seconds left. In the decisive play, Omogbo received a pass from Reggie Hudson and, unguarded, made the winning shot from the left side.
Omogbo was the key figure for the Mariners, leading the attack with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Richard Polanco also had an outstanding performance, contributing 18 points and eight rebounds. Andrés Fulgencio and Luis Morel contributed 14 and 13 points respectively, while Reggie Hudson added nine assists.
For the Heroes of Moca, John Clark Jr. and Caleb Huffman scored 18 points each. Robert Glenn added 12 units, and Eloy Vargas along with Kevin Obanor achieved a double-double, with 11 points and 10 rebounds each.
The Heroes of Moca started the game on the right foot, dominating the first quarter with a score of 26-22, managing to have a lead of up to 11 points. However, the Mariners reacted and managed to go into halftime with a slight lead of 48-47.
The third quarter continued with the same intensity, with both teams exchanging the lead, ending tied at 66 points. The last quarter maintained the tension, with baskets from both sides until the exciting final that favored the Mariners.Upcoming Meetings
The action of the Super League LNB continues this Wednesday, with the Gigantes Basketball Club facing the Leones de Santo Domingo at the San Carlos Club. On the other hand, the Reales de La Vega will receive the Cañeros del Este at the Fernando Teruel Sports Palace.
