Possible Official MLB Events in the Dominican Republic
Manfred pointed out that, if a modern stadium were available and met the league’s requirements, it would be easier for the Dominican Republic to host regular season official games, as well as World Baseball Classic matches in future editions.“Baseball is fundamental in Dominican culture. If the necessary infrastructure conditions are met, it would be more feasible to bring official MLB events,” said the commissioner.
Rob ManfredFurthermore, Manfred applauded the support of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, in the development and support of baseball. “We can’t ask more of the president, he has supported us in everything we have requested,” he affirmed. The commissioner also revealed that the idea of holding this exhibition series on Dominican soil came from a proposal by former player and current executive Nelson Cruz, who has been a key factor in strengthening ties between MLB and the Dominican Republic. The presence of Manfred in Quisqueya underscores the importance of the nation in the international baseball arena and opens the possibility for local fans to enjoy official Major League events at home.
