Santo Domingo – The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (Lidom) announced the passing of Luis Ramón Cordero, an emblematic figure in sports, a lawyer, and a journalist. Cordero, at 95 years old, leaves an indelible legacy in winter baseball and in the country’s communication. Born in La Vega, Cordero presided over Lidom between 1984 and 1990. During his tenure, he implemented significant administrative reforms, strengthening the structure of the tournament and promoting a modern vision for the management of professional baseball.

A life dedicated to journalism and public service

In addition to his outstanding work in the sports field, Luis Ramón Cordero had a prolific career in Dominican journalism. He was vice president of Listín Diario, was part of the management of El Nacional, and was general administrator of the latter in 1967. He was also among the founders of the newspaper Hoy, where he held executive positions in the 1980s. In the public sector, Cordero was a member of the Monetary Board (1982-1986) and a full member of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) in 1998, an organization to which he remained linked as an advisor.

His passion for sports manifested itself from an early age, with work at the La Voz del Camú radio station and collaborations in El Caribe. In addition, he played an important role in the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame, where he was a member of the Permanent Committee and vice president, contributing to the recognition of great figures of national sport.
