Luis Gil Will Start the Season in Triple-A
Dominican pitcher Luis Gil will start the 2026 season in Triple-A, according to the New York Yankees team.
Manager Aaron Boone announced that the 2024 American League Rookie of the Year will start the season in Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. This decision is part of the team’s plan to continue his development and allow his integration as a fifth starter when needed.
Gil, 27 years old, recorded a 2-1 mark with an ERA of 4.66 in spring training. Last season, the pitcher accumulated 57 innings. The Yankees’ coaching staff trusts in his physical condition and his ability to contribute to the team during the season.
The decision was not due to poor performance in the preseason, but rather to the current structure of the team’s pitching staff and internal competition for rotation spots.
