Toronto – New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed that Dominican Luis Gil will be the starting pitcher for Game 1 of the American League Division Series this Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Will Warren, for his part, will be available as a reliever in the bullpen. Boone explained the decision: “I feel he’s ready for this and it’s his turn. We decided to keep Warren as an alternative in the bullpen and we trust that Luis is prepared.”

This is a very important game for us. I am going out to compete, to give 100% and help the team as much as I can

Gil, who is preparing for his third postseason start, expressed the importance of the match.

Yankees Rotation Plan

  • Game 1: Luis Gil
  • Game 2 (Sunday): Max Fried
  • Game 3 (Tuesday): Carlos Rodón
  • Game 4 (Wednesday, if necessary): Cam Schlittler
Gil, who was American League Rookie of the Year in 2024, returned this season after recovering from an injury to his right side muscle that kept him out until August. In 11 starts in 2025, Gil had a 4-1 record with an ERA of 3.32, being a key contribution to the New York rotation. Although his secondary statistics showed a slight decline, the Yankees won eight of their eleven outings, including a standout performance of six innings and one run allowed against the Blue Jays on September 6. Boone highlighted his starting pitcher’s competitive spirit: “He has worked hard to come back. It hasn’t always been easy, but the most important thing is that it has yielded results. He is not afraid and we know what he is capable of when he is on the mound.”
