La Vega Crowned Champion in the U-6 National Baseball Tournament
In a day full of emotion and dedicated to the youngest, the La Vega team won the title of champion in the 5th National U-6 Championship, organized by the Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedom). The event, which was held in honor of Father’s Day, culminated with a victory for La Vega over Sánchez Ramírez with a score of 7-5. The final, characterized by the high performance of both teams, prevented Sánchez Ramírez from obtaining his second consecutive championship in this category. José Pérez Domínguez, leader of La Vega, led his team to victory, while Jhosed Augusto Luciano Paulino was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. The Abeprosado team took the bronze medal in this championship, which took place at the Oratorio María Auxiliadora Baseball Play. For this 2025 edition, the tournament was dedicated to José Meregildo Jiminián, a member of the Fedom Executive Committee and former president of the Santo Domingo Province Baseball Association. In the National U-6, teams from various regions participated, including San Juan de La Maguana (represented by the Chelo League), the National District, Abeprosado, Sánchez Ramírez, and La Vega. The event was attended by prominent figures in baseball, such as Welington Castillo, former professional player and member of the coaching staff for Premier 12 2024, and Nelson Cruz, general manager of the Dominican team for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Both were present supporting their sons, Elión Castillo and Neón Cruz, who played for the La Vega team. During the awards ceremony, José Meregildo Jiminián received a plaque in recognition of his dedication to the training of young talents in baseball. Jiminián expressed his gratitude to Fedom and its president, Juan Núñez, for this recognition.In the event, along with Núñez, were present Delfín Pérez, president of the Baseball Association of San Juan de La Maguana, Eligna Rodríguez, secretary of the Fedom Women’s Secretariat, Nelson Cruz, Welington Castillo and Yubelkis Mateo de Cruz, godmother of the La Vega selection. Juan Núñez, head of Fedom, announced that the U-8 National Championship will be held in September.
