Dominican outfielder José Bautista, one of the most emblematic figures in Major League Baseball in the last decade, was honored with his induction into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.

The ceremony, held in St. Marys, Ontario, recognized his outstanding career with the Toronto Blue Jays, the team he played with for ten seasons.

During the event, Bautista, visibly moved, expressed his gratitude for the recognition, while observing his name on the Rogers Centre’s Level of Excellence, an honor reserved for the organization’s legends.

It’s surreal. It’s a good reminder of the time I spent here, a decade full of great moments and unforgettable memories. Bautista, accompanied by his family, wore the iconic white Blue Jays jersey during the ceremony.

Bautista’s famous bat-flip in the 2015 playoffs against the Texas Rangers, after a three-run home run, remains one of the most memorable images in recent baseball history. That moment marked the Blue Jays’ return to the postseason after 22 years.

A Race of Impact

José Bautista, who began his career in 2004 and played for eight teams in the Major Leagues, left an indelible mark in Toronto. In 2010, he set a club record by hitting 54 home runs.
  • He was selected six times for the All-Star Game.
  • He won the Silver Slugger Award three times.
Officially retired in 2023, he was also included in the team’s Excellence Level.

What I am most proud of is simply having been available. Being there to contribute and always give my best.

The former player, now residing in Tampa, Florida, joins other notable figures in the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025, including pitcher Erik Bedard, coach Greg Hamilton, and player Amanda Asay (posthumously inducted). Veterans Arleene Noga and Gerry Snyder were also recognized for their contributions to baseball in Canada.

Bautista’s last season in the Majors was in 2018, playing for the Atlanta Braves, the New York Mets, and the Philadelphia Phillies. However, his legacy and the affection of the fans remain firmly linked to Toronto.
