Infantino Congratulates Salcedo FC on Their Historic LDF Title
Santo Domingo – FIFA President Gianni Infantino extended his congratulations to Salcedo FC following their victory in the Dominican Republic Football League (LDF) championship. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the club in its debut season within the professional circuit. The official congratulations arrived through a letter addressed to the Dominican Football Federation (Fedofutbol). In it, Infantino praised the performance of Salcedo FC, who defeated Cibao FC, champion of the last five seasons of the league. The Salcedo FC’s championship win has been one of the biggest surprises in Dominican football, given that the club won the title in its first season in the LDF. The next challenge for Salcedo FC will be the 2026 Concacaf Caribbean Cup, a regional tournament that will bring together the most outstanding clubs in the Caribbean. The competition is scheduled to begin in August. The Salcedo FC will compete in Group B, where it will face Cibao FC and the Jamaican clubs Cavalier FC and Portmore United FC, in addition to the Caribbean Shield champion. FIFA has intensified its support for Dominican football in recent years, highlighting the development of the High Performance Center (CAR), whose partial inauguration took place last February as part of the FIFA Forward program. The first phase of this project involved an investment of $4.8 million and included the construction of two natural grass fields, accommodation areas for the national teams, administrative offices, meeting rooms, and training spaces. The second phase of the installations is expected to raise the total investment to approximately $10 million, with a completion date anticipated for 2027. The national teams, both men’s and women’s, have used the CAR for their preparation for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, whose football competitions will take place between July 29 and August 8.Infantino also acknowledged the work of the president of Fedofútbol, José Deschamps, highlighting “his continuous support, work and dedication to the development of football in the Dominican Republic”.
