The Moroccan PSG footballer, Achraf Hakimi, appeared this Friday before the Versailles court, on the outskirts of Paris, to request the dismissal of the rape accusation he has been facing since 2023. In his defense, Hakimi presented a letter signed by Kylian Mbappé, in which the now Real Madrid player clarifies his initial testimony, which was key for the instructor to order Hakimi to be sent to trial. The decision on the appeal presented by Hakimi’s defense will be announced on June 19, coinciding with his participation in the World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada with the Moroccan national team.

Mbappé’s Testimony

Sources close to the case revealed that Mbappé’s letter is a crucial element in Hakimi’s defense. In the missive, Mbappé clarifies his testimony from April 14, 2023, where he initially recounted details about the interaction between Hakimi and the complainant.

In his writing, Mbappé clarifies that he was referring to “intimate parts”, and not “his intimate parts”, without specifying whether they were sexual organs.

The complainant’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, expressed her doubts about the interpretation of the nuance provided by Mbappé, questioning the possibility of using the expression “intimate parts” without a sexual connotation. Pardo also criticized the apparent leniency towards Hakimi compared to other media cases, suggesting a possible “immunity” in the world of football.

The Facts of the Complaint

The complainant, who contacted Hakimi through social media, went to his home in February 2023. According to her testimony, the footballer kissed her against her will, lifted her clothes and touched her breasts, as well as inserting his fingers into her vagina, despite her resistance. Hakimi has denied any act of penetration, admitting only consensual kisses and hugs. The player has described the decision to send him to trial as “unfair”, while the club has maintained a stance of respect for the presumption of innocence.
