San Francisco de Macorís – The Gigantes del Cibao have secured the continuity of right-handed pitcher Antonio Santos for the next season of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League.
Santos, 29 years old and a native of Santiago de los Caballeros, began his career in Dominican professional baseball after being recruited by the Tigres del Licey in the 2017 rookie draft. He joined the Gigantes as a free agent in 2023, where he quickly became a key element in the pitching staff, thanks to his versatility.
In his three seasons with the team, including appearances in the Round Robin, the right-hander has proven his worth with a 3-3 record in 74.2 innings pitched, accumulating 69 strikeouts, an ERA of 4.70, and a WHIP of 1.50. His ability to perform as both a long reliever and an occasional starter has provided great depth and flexibility to the pitching staff.
The pitcher also has experience in the Major Leagues, after his debut in 2020 with the Colorado Rockies. There, he participated in 10 games over two seasons, accumulating 17.1 innings and 14 strikeouts. His repertoire is characterized by a fastball that can reach 99 miles per hour.
In 2025, Santos was part of the Chicago Cubs’ minor league system, playing in Double-A and Triple-A, thus continuing his professional development.
With this signing, the organization of the Gigantes del Cibao reinforces its commitment to maintain proven talent and strengthens its pitching structure for next season.
