Freddy Peralta Withdraws from the World Baseball Classic

Dominican pitcher Freddy Peralta has announced his decision not to participate in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. This determination, according to the player himself, was made considering his professional future. Peralta, recently acquired by the New York Mets, has chosen to focus on spring training with his new team. The main goal is to adapt to the environment, get to know his teammates, and prepare for the upcoming season.

“It wasn’t an easy decision, but I think it’s best for me and my career,” said the right-hander.

The pitcher detailed that the decision was made in conjunction with his family, understanding the country’s expectations and the fans’ desire to see him pitch with the national team.

“I know it will be difficult for everyone, including myself. It wasn’t easy to make the decision,” added the native of Espaillat province.

Peralta, 29 years old, spent his entire career in the Major Leagues with the Milwaukee Brewers before his transfer to New York. After next season, the right-hander will become a free agent, and his name has been mentioned in possible negotiations for a contract extension. The pitcher is coming off the best season of his career, with a 17-6 record and a 2.70 ERA in 33 starts last season with Milwaukee, solidifying himself as one of the most consistent arms in the league.
