UEFA issued an official statement this Thursday, addressing the situation of the Finalissima between Spain and Argentina, scheduled for next March 27 in Lusail, Qatar. The main concern lies in the current geopolitical context, marked by the war conflict in the region.

No changes expected

Despite the circumstances, UEFA has confirmed that “no alternative venue is being considered” for the match. The final decision will be announced at the end of next week, after further assessment of the situation.

UEFA has emphasized that it maintains constant conversations with the Qatari organizers, recognizing the “enormous effort” they are making to ensure the success of the match. The current situation has generated a debate about a possible change of venue, driven by the military intervention of the United States and Israel against Iran and Iran’s response with bombings in neighboring countries, including Qatar.

The Qatar Football Association (QFA) announced on Sunday the postponement of all tournaments and competitions due to instability in the area until further notice, without making specific mention of the match between Spain and Argentina. UEFA, Conmebol, and FIFA are in contact with the Qatari authorities to make a final decision. In addition to the official match, friendlies have been scheduled in the emirate, such as Qatar-Argentina on March 31 and Spain-Egypt a day earlier.
