On Saturday, May 30, the competition returns to the Mauricio Báez Club. The final is scheduled for Monday, June 1, the day on which the champion of this tournament dedicated to Federico Lalane José will be crowned. The qualified teams represent various areas of the National District and Santo Domingo province, after overcoming an elimination phase where more than 150 teams participated in the under-20 category. The tournament was recently inaugurated by the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, and the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, at an event held at the Tony Barreiro Sports Center of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).

Tournament Objectives

This tournament seeks to promote the development of community basketball, foster youth integration, and serve as a platform to discover new talents, in line with President Luis Abinader’s policy of support for sports. As an incentive, the champion team will receive a prize of one million pesos, while the winning teams from each zone have already been rewarded with RD$250 thousand.

Minister Kelvin Cruz highlighted that this event is part of the sports revolution that the Government is promoting in the neighborhoods of Greater Santo Domingo, including the remodeling of more than 30 sports courts to ensure appropriate and safe spaces for young people.
