SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS – The Estrellas Orientales have reinforced their pitching staff by securing the services of relievers Gerónimo Franzúa and Raffi Vizcaíno, according to an official statement from the team.
Both players, who became free agents on February 15th, have renewed their commitment to the team. This is due to the labor agreement between the National Federation of Professional Baseball Players (FENAPEPRO) and the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League, which allowed the Estrellas to negotiate exclusively with them for a month.
The previous contracts of Franzuá and Vizcaíno had expired, in accordance with the regulations established in the agreement between FENAPEPRO and the league.
Pitchers’ Career with the Stars
Gerónimo Franzúa has been a key team member for four seasons, accumulating a 6-2 record in 47 games and 39.2 innings pitched, with an ERA of 2.95.
In the previous season, Franzuá participated in 8 games, pitching 5.0 innings without a decision, facing 25 batters. His debut with the Estrellas was in the 2019-2020 season.
Raffi Vizcaíno also debuted with the Estrellas in the same season, and has played with the team for six campaigns. His record is 3-3, with an ERA of 3.68 and a save in 79 games, including 16 appearances in the last tournament, where he went 1-1, with an ERA of 3.29 in 13.2 innings, facing 53 batters.
Both Franzuá and Vizcaíno serve as middle relievers, with Franzuá frequently being used against left-handed batters.
These two players are the first restricted free agents to agree to continue with the Stars this season.
