Teóscar Hernández, Significant Loss for the Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers are facing a significant setback in their offense. Dominican outfielder Teóscar Hernández left Wednesday’s game against the Colorado Rockies due to a left hamstring injury.
Manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Hernandez will be placed on the injured list. The player is expected to be out of action for “several weeks”, depending on the results of medical examinations that will determine the severity of the injury.
The injury occurred when Hernandez was running towards first base after connecting a ground ball in his only at-bat. Television images showed the Dominican with gestures of pain, holding the back of his left leg before heading to the locker room.
“It’s disappointing. He’s been playing very well and is an important piece for us,” Roberts commented on the outfielder’s absence.
Hernández has been on a good offensive run this season, batting .276 with an OPS of .784. He had regained an important role in the Dodgers’ lineup thanks to his solid performance in May.
The Dominican had been the starting left fielder in almost all of the team’s games, proving to be one of the team’s most consistent hitters.
Given the absence of Hernandez, the Dodgers are considering calling up outfielder and first baseman Ryan Ward from the minor leagues, considered the number 19 prospect in the organization according to MLB Pipeline.
Teoscar’s injury adds to other physical problems that have affected the Californian team, including the absence of Kiké Hernández, also on the injured list.
