Colombia Bids Farewell to Cristian Camilo Muñoz with Emotional Tribute

Ventaquemada, Colombia – The Colombian cycling world mourns the loss of Cristian Camilo Muñoz, a prominent cyclist who died after a tragic accident in Europe. A massive caravan accompanied Muñoz’s return to his homeland, where he received a heartfelt tribute. The coffin of the 30-year-old cyclist was transported in a funeral procession led by firefighters and followed by numerous vehicles and cyclists. The route extended to the municipality of Ventaquemada, Muñoz’s birthplace and where his sporting career began.

Throughout the journey, the inhabitants came out to the streets to express their affection and respect, displaying flags and farewell messages in honor of an emblematic figure of local cycling. Muñoz’s body was moved to the Municipal Council, where a catafalque was installed. Family, friends, and community members had the opportunity to offer their last farewell before the funeral honors.

The cyclist, born in 1996, had been part of the team since 2024 and had achieved important results at the national level, including stage victories and the mountain title in the Clásico RCN.

Muñoz lost his life on April 24 in Oviedo, after being transferred from France after suffering a fall during the Tour du Jura. According to his team, Nu Colombia, medical complications derived from an infection worsened his state of health. The tribute in his honor will continue with a vigil and a mass, in a final farewell marked by the respect and admiration of an entire country.
