VENTAQUEMADA, COLOMBIA – The Colombian cycling world is in mourning following the death of Cristian Camilo Muñoz, an athlete who left an indelible mark on the hearts of his country. The cyclist lost his life after an accident in European territory, leaving a void in the sport and in the community.
Muñoz’s return to his hometown, Ventaquemada, was marked by an emotional caravan that gathered a multitude to bid him farewell. The funeral procession, led by fire department units, traveled the streets until reaching the municipality where he was born and grew up as a cyclist.Throughout the journey, the residents of Ventaquemada expressed their affection and admiration for Muñoz, displaying flags and farewell messages. The coffin was moved to the Municipal Council, where a catafalque was installed so that family, friends, and the community could pay their last respects.
A prominent cyclist
Cristian Camilo Muñoz, born in 1996, joined the Nu Colombia team in 2024. Throughout his career, he achieved important victories at the national level, including stage wins and the mountain title in the Clásico RCN. His dedication and talent made him a prominent figure in local cycling.
The tribute will continue with a vigil and a mass, in a final farewell marked by the respect and admiration of an entire country.
On April 24th, Muñoz suffered a fall during the Tour du Jura in France, and was later transferred to Oviedo. According to information provided by his team, medical complications arising from an infection worsened his health, resulting in his death.
