COD Celebrates Duarte’s Birthday and Anniversary with Students

Santo Domingo – The Dominican Olympic Committee (COD), through its Olympic Academy, commemorated the 213th anniversary of the birth of Juan Pablo Duarte and the 80th anniversary of the organization’s founding. The celebration was attended by students from the Gregorio Luperón School and the San José Parochial Educational Center. The protocol ceremony took place in the Juan Ulises García Saleta Hall of the COD. A floral offering was made at the bust of Juan Pablo Duarte, located on the front esplanade of the Olympic organization.

Engineer Garibaldy Bautista, president of the COD, interacted with the students and highlighted the importance of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 for the country.

Additionally, the president of the COD shared details about the history and role of the institution in organizing Dominican sports delegations in international events of the Olympic cycle. Engineer Pedro Julio Quezada, director of the Olympic Academy, highlighted the participation of the students and emphasized values as fundamental to maintain Duarte’s legacy. As part of the program, the students of the San José Parochial Educational Center, led by the licensed Ángela Pujols and the teachers Ramona Pacheco and Eduardo Acosta, presented a dramatization entitled “Duarte Inmortal”. The floral offering was enlivened by the Marching Band of the General Gregorio Luperón School, under the direction of the physical education teacher Enemencio Rosario, along with two flag bearers from the educational center. The floral offering was led by engineer Garibaldy Bautista, president of the COD, and escorted by engineer Pedro Julio Quezada and Pedro Almonte. José Antonio Tejeda and Pedro Almonte, professors at the Olympic Academy, and Luis Morillo, a graduate of the Sports Administration courses, were also present at the event. The students toured the different areas of the Olympic Committee, receiving explanations about the functioning of the different departments.
