Judge Rejects Class Action Lawsuit and Ortiz against LIDOM

Santo Domingo – The presiding judge of the Civil and Commercial Chamber of the Court of First Instance of the National District, acting as a judge of referrals, dismissed the lawsuit filed by players Enmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz against the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (Lidom) and its president. The plaintiffs’ request sought the suspension of the decision that objected to their registration to play with the Estrellas Orientales in the current Autumn-Winter Tournament 2025-2026. In addition, they asked the court to order their immediate inclusion in the team’s roster. Additionally, the players requested a daily astreinte of RD$100,000 against Lidom and its president for each day of delay in their registration. This request was also denied by the court.

The magistrate based his decision on article 56 of the 2025-2026 Lidom Tournament Regulations.

This article grants the League’s president broad powers to resolve matters not foreseen in the regulations or not assigned to other bodies, on a provisional basis until ratified or revoked by the Board of Directors. The decision is outlined in Civil Ordinance No. 504-2025-5ORD-2378. Lidom expressed its confidence that the same criteria will be applied in the other legal actions initiated by Clase and Ortiz against the League and its president.
