SANTO DOMINGO.- Los Leones del Escogido, current national and Caribbean champions, finalized a significant trade with the Toros del Este this Tuesday, acquiring pitchers Domingo Germán and Samuel Reyes in exchange for infielder Francisco Urbáez.
Domingo Germán: A Pitcher with Major League Experience
Domingo Germán, 33 years old, arrives at the scarlet team with a career of seven seasons in the Major Leagues. His last participation in the MLB was in 2024 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Previously, between 2017 and 2023, he was part of the New York Yankees, where he achieved a perfect game in 2023 against the Oakland Athletics.
In his time in the Majors, Germán recorded a 31-29 record, with an ERA of 4.54, a WHIP of 1.20 and a total of 561 strikeouts in 543.0 innings.
In the Dominican Baseball League (LIDOM), Germán’s appearances have been limited due to his commitment in the Major Leagues. Between the 2017-18 and 2024-25 seasons, he participated in 12 games, accumulating 36 strikeouts in 29.2 innings.
Germán also has an important milestone in winter baseball, as he was part of the team that pitched one of the 11 no-hitters in the league’s history. This happened on November 16, 2020, against the Tigres del Licey at the Francisco A. Micheli stadium, where he pitched the first four innings and combined with other relievers to complete the feat.
Samuel Reyes: A Reliever with Potential
Samuel Reyes, 29 years old, participated this summer in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball with the Charleston Dirty Birds, where he had a 4-4 record and an ERA of 4.39, with 58 strikeouts in 53.1 innings.
Between 2017 and 2024, Reyes was part of the minor leagues of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs, and Washington Nationals. In this period, he stood out with an ERA of 3.58, 399 strikeouts in 397.2 innings, and a WHIP of 1.26.
Despite being selected by the Toros in the 2018 Rookie Draft, Reyes has yet to debut in the LIDOM.
Regarding Francisco Urbáez, the Leones del Escogido wish him success in his new stage. Urbáez played with the Leones between the 2021-22 and 2024-25 seasons, participating in 61 games and batting .233.
The Leones del Escogido, with 17 national titles, continue their training at the New York Yankees academy in Boca Chica, preparing for the 2025-26 LIDOM season, which will be dedicated to Don Juan Marichal and will begin on October 15.
