Caminero Unleashes Fury with the Wood and the Rays Take the Victory
In an exciting encounter at Wrigley Field, Dominican Junior Caminero once again demonstrated his offensive power, driving the comeback of the Tampa Bay Rays over the Chicago Cubs with a key home run.
Caminero hit his 43rd home run of the season in the eighth inning, a solo shot that tied the score and ignited the spark for Tampa Bay’s victory.
The Rays’ reaction was immediate. Nick Fortes sealed the victory with a 421-foot home run in the ninth inning, breaking the tie and securing the lead for Tampa Bay.
Reliever Brad Keller (4-2) suffered the loss, while Bryan Baker (4-4) took the win after a flawless inning. Pete Fairbanks earned his 26th save of the season.
The Cubs, who had taken a 4-3 lead, tried to tie the game in the ninth inning, but Caminero also shone with the glove, making an outstanding defensive play that prevented Dansby Swanson from scoring.
Fairbanks struck out Michael Busch and Ian Happ to secure the Rays’ victory.
Caminero finished the night with a stellar performance, batting 5-2 with a run scored and one RBI, solidifying his position as one of the most outstanding players of the season and reinforcing his candidacy for the Most Valuable Player award.
Yandy Díaz also contributed two hits for the Rays, while the Cubs were highlighted by home runs from Michael Busch and rookie Moisés Ballesteros.
