Luque, Paraguay – The president of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), Marco Laporta, shared details about the “innovative project” with which Rio de Janeiro and Niterói seek to secure the venue for the 2031 Pan American Games, the decision for which will be announced on October 10. The choice of the venue for the twenty-first edition of the Pan American Games will be made during an assembly of Panam Sports in Santiago, Chile.

Brazil Seeks to Host Again

The last time Brazil hosted the Pan American Games was in 2007, precisely in Rio de Janeiro.

Having Rio de Janeiro in a new bid together with Niterói is an innovative project in which we can really take advantage of the structures we have from the 2016 Olympic Games, from the 2007 Pan American Games, along with the beauty of the beaches of Niterói, and through which we can host major events again in our country.

Marco Laporta, President of the COB
Laporta explained that the proximity between the cities, separated by only 14 minutes and a bridge, allows taking advantage of their natural environments for competitions such as triathlon and open water swimming. In addition, he highlighted the presence of good venues for sports such as wrestling. This project is innovative because, for the first time, two cities would organize the Pan American Games.

Brazilian Dominance at the Junior Pan American Games

The Brazilian delegation has far surpassed one hundred medals in the junior event in Asunción, demonstrating a successful training process.

Those who are here, in Asunción, are grown-up guys. We have two clear objectives. One, to win the games. And two, to obtain the maximum number of spots for Lima 2027. It is a very important opportunity for young people to compete in an event of this size, to know a little about how the mission of the Brazilian Olympic Committee works. It is a process of maturation for them and we are very satisfied.

Marco Laporta, President of the COB
This success is reflected in sports like swimming, where they obtained 24 gold medals, highlighting the achievements of Stephanie Balduccini and Stephan Steverink.

Victories and New Disciplines with Potential

Laporta highlighted the importance of athletes experiencing the taste of victory in competitive circuits.

It is very important for athletes to feel the taste of victory because the circuits are usually very tough. There are many athletes at a good level who have been here, have won many medals like Stephanie Balduccini, also Guilherme Caribé and it is very important for them to feel the taste of victory.

Marco Laporta, President of the COB
He also mentioned positive surprises in sports such as shooting, archery, BMX cycling and rowing, areas where it is planned to invest more to obtain better results.
