SANTO DOMINGO – Dominican iconic pitcher Bartolo Colón will be immortalized in the twelfth class of the Latin Baseball Hall of Fame, a deserved recognition of his outstanding professional career. The exaltation ceremony, where “Big Sexy” will be honored alongside compatriots Julio César Franco and Miguel Tejada, will be held at the end of this year in Punta Cana, as announced by the Hall of Fame organization this Thursday. The selection of the new members was made by a panel of voting journalists, who valued the impact of these figures on Latin American baseball.
In 2005, Colón was awarded the prestigious American League Cy Young Award, after recording a 21-8 record with a 3.48 ERA playing for the Anaheim Angels. During his extensive MLB career, Colón played for 11 teams, including the Cleveland Guardians (formerly Indians), New York Yankees and Mets, Montreal Expos, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, and Minnesota Twins. In addition to his time in the Major Leagues, Bartolo also left his mark in the Dominican Baseball League (LIDOM) with the Águilas Cibaeñas, participated in the Caribbean Series, and had a presence in the Mexican Baseball League, solidifying an exemplary career. The exaltation of Colón to the Latin Baseball Hall of Fame is a new recognition for one of the most beloved and charismatic athletes in Dominican baseball.Bartolo Colón pitched for 21 seasons in the Major Leagues, accumulating 247 victories, the most for a Latin pitcher in Major League history.
