Gymnasts’ Parents Call for the Rehabilitation of the Pavilion in Barahona
Barahona – The Association of Parents and Mothers of the gymnastics athletes of Barahona has raised its voice, requesting an urgent intervention from the authorities for the rehabilitation of the bathrooms of the Gymnastics Pavilion. The facilities, currently in a deplorable state, do not meet the minimum conditions for their use, according to reports. More than 30 girls train daily in this sports facility, being forced to use sanitary services in precarious conditions. Faced with this situation, the parents have called on the Regional Director of Sports, Rafelito Garo, and the Provincial Director, Cristian Núñez, to prioritize the intervention of this important sports venue in their plans. Parents’ concern also focuses on their daughters’ health. The accumulation of dust and the deterioration of the bathrooms represent a source of contamination that could lead to diseases. They denounce that the bathrooms lack water, adequate facilities, and even toilet paper.Carla Vielna, president of the Parents and Mothers Association, pointed out that this is not the first time this complaint has been raised without obtaining a favorable response. The community leader emphasized that the pavilion receives dozens of girls from Monday to Thursday, so ensuring adequate spaces for the practice of sports should be a priority for the Ministry of Sports. We have made this claim on multiple occasions and have not received the necessary attention. However, we reiterate that we will continue to raise our voices to local, regional, and national authorities so that our athletes can have a pavilion in decent conditions.
