Athletics RD: 284 athletes seek a spot at the National Championship in Bayaguana and La Romana

Santo Domingo, DR. – A total of 284 athletes from all over the Dominican Republic are preparing to compete this Friday and Saturday in the National Championship of Jumps, Throws, Middle Distance, Long Distance and Race Walking. This event will serve as a qualifier for the National Athletics Tournament. The competition will take place on the tracks of the Bayaguana Sports Complex and in La Romana.

Statements from the Federation President

Engineer Alexis Peguero, president of the Dominican Federation of Athletics Associations, was the one who made the announcement. He highlighted the importance of the event, which will bring together the most outstanding athletes in each modality, who will seek to secure their place in the maximum national event. “We will have our best athletes competing in each discipline, all focused on achieving their qualification for the National Tournament,” expressed Peguero.

Competition Details

The competitions in Bayaguana will begin on Saturday at 8:00 in the morning. Tests of 3,000 meters with obstacles, high jump and pole vault, among other specialties, will be carried out.

In the afternoon, starting at 3:00 p.m., the action will move to the track in La Romana. There, shot put, javelin and discus throws will be contested, as well as 800, 1,000, 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000 meter races, in addition to the athletic walk. In this same venue, a morning session will be held with the participation of the Federation’s technicians. The championship is supported by the Ministry of Sports, the Dominican Olympic Committee, Grupo Creso, Adidas, World Athletics, and INEFI. During the two days, athletes from the different provincial associations will demonstrate their preparation and performance. This event is crucial for the competitive calendar of Dominican athletics.
