Arbeloa demands strong action against racism in football
Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa has spoken out to demand drastic measures from UEFA in response to alleged racist and homophobic insults directed at Vinícius Júnior by Benfica player Gianluca Prestianni. In a press conference prior to the next European match, Arbeloa emphasized the need for the governing body of football to demonstrate that its fight against racism goes beyond words and materializes into concrete actions. The Real Madrid coach firmly defended Vinícius, highlighting his performance and leadership within the team. Arbeloa confirmed that the Brazilian player is motivated and ready for the next challenge. On the other hand, Arbeloa avoided going into details about the statements of the president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta. The coach preferred to focus on the “Negreira case”, considering it the most worrying issue in current Spanish football. Arbeloa’s statement comes at a time of growing attention on protocols and sanctions against racism in European football, pending a possible disciplinary decision by UEFA.No action on the field justifies racism.
