PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Phillies have reached an agreement for one season and $10 million with free agent outfielder Adolis García, according to a source. Although the club has not yet made the deal official, the news has already generated expectations.

García, 32, became a free agent after the Texas Rangers decided not to offer him a contract. In the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the right-handed hitter recorded a combined offensive line of .225/.279/.397, with an OPS+ of 96.

The signing represents a bet by the Phillies to recover the offensive and defensive impact that García showed in the past. In the 2023 postseason, the Cuban was key in Texas’ World Series title, hitting eight home runs and driving in 22 runs, a record for a single postseason, with an OPS of 1.108.

His most outstanding performance came in the 2023 American League Championship Series against the Astros, where he was named Most Valuable Player after hitting five home runs and driving in 15 runs. In addition, he hit a walk-off home run in Game 1 of the World Series against the Diamondbacks.

During the 2023 regular season, García had one of the best years of his career, being called up for the second time to the All-Star Game, setting personal records with 39 home runs, 107 RBIs, an OPS of .836, and a WAR of 4.7, in addition to winning his first Gold Glove for his defensive performance.

Selected for the All-Star Game for the first time as a rookie at 28 years old, García has built a career marked by perseverance. Born in Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, he was the Most Valuable Player of the National Series in the 2015-16 season, had a brief stint in Japanese baseball and later settled in the Dominican Republic to sign as an international free agent. After a short period with the St. Louis Cardinals, he arrived at the Rangers, where he managed to establish himself as one of the most feared power hitters in the American League.

With this addition, the Phillies seek to add experience, offensive power, and defensive solidity to their roster, hoping that Adolis García regains his best form and contributes immediately in the fight for postseason spots.
