Zelenskyy reaffirms Ukraine’s sovereignty on its independence anniversary
In the framework of the commemoration of the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered a forceful message about his nation’s transformation in the face of the Russian invasion. From St. Michael’s Cathedral in Kyiv, the leader emphasized that the country has left behind its role as a spectator to become a leading actor capable of defending its territory.

Strengthening defense and current challenges
During his speech, Zelensky highlighted the technological advances in the Ukrainian military sector, especially in the capacity to intercept Russian Shahed drones. However, the leader acknowledged that the shortage of interceptors continues to represent a critical vulnerability against ballistic missiles. Given this scenario, the Ukrainian Government maintains its call to international allies to increase the supply of weaponry and push for a ceasefire, reiterating that sovereignty over Donetsk is non-negotiable.
Call to the international community
In a message directed at China, the president urged Beijing to take a more decisive role regarding Vladimir Putin’s nuclear threats. According to Zelensky, global powers must exert their influence to ensure world stability and reject any rhetoric that compromises international security.
European support in Kyiv
The day was marked by the arrival of senior European leaders in the Ukrainian capital, who reaffirmed their commitment to the cause. Among the figures present were British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and European Council President António Costa. In his first official visit abroad, Burnham announced that the United Kingdom will provide strategic information to the company MBDA to boost the production of long-range missiles within Ukrainian territory.
This diplomatic and military support comes at a decisive moment for the conflict, as Ukraine continues to resist the onslaught of the Russian offensive, maintaining its stance of seeking peace without ceding an iota of its territorial integrity.
