United States allocates one million dollars in forensic assistance for flood victims in Nepal
The United States Department of State has confirmed a new humanitarian aid package valued at one million dollars, specifically aimed at strengthening forensic capabilities in Nepal. This initiative seeks to accelerate the identification of victims following the devastating floods that have struck the Asian country since August 26, leaving a tragic toll of more than 1,300 dead and nearly 5,000 people missing.
Through the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, this budget has been allocated to provide the Nepal Police with critical tools, most notably specialized DNA testing kits, which are essential for the body identification process.
FBI forensic specialists are also working with the Nepal Police to support disaster victim identification and provide specialized humanitarian expertise, helping authorities identify victims and provide answers to the families of U.S. citizens and all victims.

A comprehensive humanitarian commitment
With this recent contribution, the total assistance provided by the U.S. government to Nepal amounts to more than 5 million dollars. The deployment of resources has been diversified to cover the most urgent needs of the affected population:
- Food security: 3 million dollars channeled through the World Food Programme to guarantee supplies for 10,000 households for three months.
- Infrastructure and health: 685,000 dollars allocated for shelters, drinking water, and sanitation through Catholic Relief Services, in addition to an additional 365,000 dollars managed by organizations such as UNICEF, Jhpiego, and FHI-360.
- Logistical support: The U.S. military has contributed 5,000 specialized supplies for victim recovery, as well as stretchers, first aid kits, and heavy machinery for search and rescue efforts.
U.S. authorities highlighted that the operation remains in a rapidly evolving phase. Washington’s commitment remains firm in working closely with local partners, adjusting assistance priorities as conditions on the ground change following the natural disaster.
