Dominican Republic falls to the United States in a heart-stopping final at the U-15 World Cup
The Dominican Republic national team took home the silver medal at the U-15 Baseball World Cup, after suffering a painful 5-4 loss to the United States in a duel that was decided in extra innings. The match, held at the Kukulcán Álamo Park in Mérida, Mexico, kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very last pitch.
A dramatic outcome
The clash reached the top of the eighth inning with the score tied 3-3. It was at that moment that the Dominicans took the lead thanks to the cunning of shortstop Rainsel Herrera, who executed a bunt that caused a defensive error by the Americans, allowing Ángel Montás to score the fourth run for the Dominican Republic.
However, the United States’ response was resounding. In the bottom of the same inning, an error on a throw by Dominican pitcher Carlos Marrero facilitated the tie. Shortly after, Calvin Madenspacher hit a sacrifice fly to center field. Despite outfielder Ángel García’s effort to make a precise throw to home plate, the ball deflected slightly, allowing the winning run to seal the championship for the Americans.
The United States secures its third world title in the U-15 category, reaffirming its dominance following the championships previously won in 2018 and 2022.

Both teams reached the decisive matchup after a solid performance in the Super Round. The United States advanced with a 4-1 record, while the Dominican Republic sealed their spot with a 3-2 mark. The final duel was a reflection of a high-level competition, where both teams demonstrated why they were the most consistent squads of the tournament.
