United States allocates one million dollars in forensic assistance following tragedy in Nepal
The United States Department of State has announced significant technical and financial support for Nepal, following the devastating catastrophe caused by the floods that have affected the country since August 26th. With a tragic toll exceeding 1,300 fatalities and nearly 5,000 people missing, the U.S. government has reinforced its commitment to humanitarian assistance.
The aid, valued at one million dollars, will be channeled through the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs. The main objective of these funds is to strengthen the capabilities of the Nepal Police, allowing for the acquisition of DNA analysis kits and other essential resources for the identification process of the deceased.

FBI forensic specialists are also working with the Nepal Police to support disaster victim identification and provide specialized humanitarian expertise, helping authorities identify victims and provide answers to the families of U.S. citizens and all victims.

This technical collaboration is part of a comprehensive effort to expedite the recovery of victims and provide the necessary support to the affected families, including those of U.S. nationality reported as missing.
A multi-billion dollar aid deployment
With this new disbursement, the total aid offered by Washington to Nepal amounts to more than 5 million dollars. The breakdown of resources includes various critical areas for the survival and recovery of the affected communities:
- Food assistance: $3 million allocated to the World Food Programme to ensure supplies and logistics for 10,000 households for three months.
- Sanitation and shelter: $685,000 managed by Catholic Relief Services, plus an additional $365,000 distributed through organizations such as UNICEF, Jhpiego, and FHI-360.
- Tactical equipment: The U.S. Army has provided 5,000 specialized recovery supplies, 500 first aid kits, stretchers, and heavy machinery such as front-end loaders for search operations.
U.S. authorities have emphasized that the situation on the ground remains in constant evolution. Therefore, they are maintaining close coordination with local partners to adapt assistance strategies to the changing needs of the areas impacted by the floods.
