UNIREMHOS successfully completes external evaluation of its School of Medicine
The Eugenio María de Hostos University (UNIREMHOS) successfully concluded the external evaluation process of its School of Medicine. This event, held on August 13, 14, and 17, 2026, had the main objective of verifying compliance with the quality standards required by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT) for medical training programs in the Dominican Republic.
The process included the participation of prominent academic authorities and representatives of the regulatory body. On behalf of the institution, the rector, Dr. Wady Ramírez, was present, along with the director of the School of Medicine, Dr. Clementina Gilleard; the academic vice-rector, Mtra. Miriam Nova; and the administrative vice-rector, Ing. Yocasta Mañón. The MESCYT delegation was led by the process coordinator, Dr. Modesto Cruz, accompanied by evaluators Dr. Genoveva Martín Sánchez and Dr. Beatriz Elina Carrillo, as well as supervisor Mtro. Silvio Antonio Roberto González.
Transparency and rigor in medical training
During the work sessions, an exhaustive review of the academic, administrative, and clinical dimensions of the program was conducted. The evaluators cross-referenced the information presented in the Self-Evaluation Report with physical evidence and current institutional processes, ensuring compliance with national regulations for the accreditation of medical schools.
This process constitutes an opportunity to continue strengthening academic and institutional management and to contribute to the quality assurance of higher education in the Dominican Republic. The evaluation favors the preparation of health professionals with the knowledge, competencies, and values necessary to respond to the country’s needs.
