UASD modernizes its Social Communication degree for the digital age
The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) has initiated a transformation process in its Social Communication curriculum. The main objective is to adapt academic training to the demands of the current media ecosystem, marked by the immediacy of social networks and new digital platforms for information consumption.
Professor Manuel Rodríguez reported that the School of Social Communication, under the direction of Julián Sosa, is actively working on this curricular redesign. The initiative seeks to ensure that future communication professionals are prepared to respond to the changing dynamics of the labor market, moving beyond the traditional focus centered exclusively on conventional media.
There are new ecosystems and so what you are coming to present is what the real situation is. It is essential to know how the population accesses news, which media they use most frequently, and how young people consume information today.

Global trends and practical training
Academic updating efforts are supported by international studies on news consumption trends, which offer a panoramic view of how the population stays informed in 48 countries. These data serve as a roadmap for local faculties to adjust their programs to the global reality.
To ensure that students acquire high-level technical skills, the institution has strengthened its facilities with cutting-edge technology. Among the improvements, the following stand out:
- Two equipped television stations.
- Two radio studios.
- A modern newsroom.
- Specialized spaces for public relations.
In this regard, Rodríguez emphasized that the combination of theory and practice is the fundamental pillar for graduates to be competitive. These tools allow students to face real production situations, achieving a more efficient transition toward professional practice in the current media environment.
