UASD boosts the agricultural sector with a new dairy processing plant
The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) has taken a significant step in strengthening its academic and scientific infrastructure with the inauguration of a modern dairy processing plant. Located in the Faculty of Agronomic and Veterinary Sciences (FCAV), this facility is designed to enhance the practical training of students and foster high-level research in the field of food production and quality.
The opening ceremony was led by the university rector, Jorge Asjana David, who was accompanied by Eric Rivero, advisor to the Executive Branch on agricultural affairs, and Luis Sánchez, executive director of the National Council for the Regulation and Promotion of the Dairy Industry (Conaleche). During the meeting, the authorities emphasized the need for the university to have cutting-edge technology to effectively respond to the demands of the national productive sector.
Technological modernization and commitment to research
In addition to the new plant, Rector Asjana David oversaw the progress in the modernization of the Food Composition Laboratory. These improvements include the incorporation of state-of-the-art equipment intended to increase the institution’s analytical capacity in critical areas.
These initiatives are part of our efforts to turn the UASD into an institution with greater scientific capabilities and a close and effective relationship with the productive sectors of the Dominican Republic.

The implementation of these resources will allow for deeper specialized research, covering key disciplines such as:

Representatives of the agricultural sector, such as Eric Rivero and Luis Sánchez, reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate closely with the university, highlighting that this dairy plant will not only be a production center, but a fundamental space where future professionals will be able to master quality control standards and industrial processes.
The event was attended by prominent university authorities, including the Vice-Rector of Research and Postgraduate Studies, Juana Encarnación; the Vice-Rector of Extension, Gerardo Roa; and the Dean of the Faculty of Agronomic and Veterinary Sciences, Luis Matos. With these projects, the UASD consolidates its role as a fundamental pillar in scientific cooperation and the country’s sustainable development.
