The UASD and the Embassy of Peru will hold a conference in honor of Mario Vargas Llosa
The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and the Embassy of Peru in the Dominican Republic have joined efforts to organize the conference-debate titled “Mario Vargas Llosa: 90 years since his birth”. This academic event seeks to delve into the intellectual impact and literary legacy of the award-winning Peruvian writer, a key figure in world literature.
The planning of this meeting was consolidated after a meeting between the rector of the institution, Jorge Asjana David, and the Peruvian ambassador, Gustavo Felipe José Lembcke Hoyle, together with minister counselor Luis Hernán Delgado Vizcarra. The dialogue allowed for strengthening cultural and academic cooperation ties between both nations.
A benchmark of Ibero-American literature
The activity will feature the special participation of Dr. Raúl Tola Pedraglio, director of the Mario Vargas Llosa Chair. This space, created in 2011 by the International Foundation for Freedom, has the fundamental purpose of promoting the study of contemporary literature and disseminating the work of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature.
The conference will allow for an analysis of the significance of the literary production of Vargas Llosa, who established himself as one of the greatest exponents of the Latin American Boom thanks to his prolific career as a novelist, essayist, and journalist.
