UASD Azua Center and Ministry of Culture finalize details for FESTISUR 2026

The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), through its Center in Azua, and the Ministry of Culture have consolidated a strategic alliance for the organization of the Regional Culture Festival (FESTISUR). This important cultural event will take place from November 12 to 14, 2026, using the university facilities as the main venue to celebrate the identity of the Dominican South.

Representatives from the Ministry of Culture recently met with Dr. Francisco Ramírez, director of the UASD Azua Center, to coordinate the logistics and operational aspects that will ensure the success of this initiative. The central objective is to highlight the vast artistic wealth and traditions that define the southern region of the country.

A tribute to the visual arts

The 2026 edition of FESTISUR will feature a special dedication to the prominent Dominican painter Dionisio Blanco. With this recognition, the aim is to highlight his impeccable career and his significant contributions to the development of the visual arts within the national cultural landscape.

The event is shaping up to be a fundamental meeting point for artists, cultural managers, academics, and the community in general, fostering a space for the exchange and preservation of our regional identity.

Schedule of preliminary activities

As a prelude to the festival celebration, the Minister of Culture, Roberto Ángel Salcedo, will present the lecture titled “The Power of Good Words,” scheduled for October 14th. During that same day, an official press conference will be held where the complete program and the strategic objectives pursued by this edition of the festival will be revealed.

This collaboration between academia and the State represents a transcendental step to bring different cultural manifestations closer to the citizenry, strengthening the social fabric and promoting local talent throughout the province of Azua.
